Mochahost review
Background
Business Name: MochaHost – The Online Central
Year of foundation: 2002
Location: San Jose, California, USA
BBB Accreditation: No
Market Size: > 20K websites (#39 in HRank list)
Growth Status: (by websites quantity): Increasing
MochaHost.com has been in the industry since 2002.
Their full name is MochaHost the Online Central and they offer a variation of hosting and other services. Surely, MochaHost is not a small company. It might be a bigger challenge to have everything covered with their numbers, however, with the technology they claim having, they are supposed to be pretty cool.
We have been surprised to find so many negative reviews on this company, especially so much negative feedback in regards to the hosting’s performance.
Their website has been through several redesign stages since 2002 and now it looks much better than it used to be (in our humble opinion).
Offers and Pricing
Name | Domains | Disk | Bandwidth | Min Price | Billing Term |
Soho | 1 | Unlim | Unlim | $4.95 | 1 Mo |
Mocha | Unlim | Unlim | Unlim | $6.21 | 36 Mo |
Business | Unlim | Unlim | Unlim | $6.95 | 1 Mo |
Though they have attractive promo prices for new customers, they are not forever. And renewal prices are way higher.
In the table above there are the prices for the longest period (36 months) and the cheapest option.
Setup fee is $5; it is non-refundable.
In terms of price and quality correlation they can be referred to as a budget hosting (if you choose triennial plans) and some good average if you do better with monthly and yearly plans (and other).
They have a variety of payment options to choose from, that’s a real benefit, not all hostings can give that to you. Not all of them promise 180 days of risk-free service or 30 days money back guarantee either.
They also do domains and servers and website builder is also on offer and even marketing services (SEO including) are here.
Support
Instant Technical Live Support: Yes
MochaHost offers phone, live chat, and tickets for support.
It is, surely, hard to say whether they really offer 24/7 phone support – we haven’t tried calling them in the middle of the night.
Neither it is exemplary to rely on some personal experience solely. We can only add that the number of support options is varied and that their live chat answers back pretty fast (for sales inquiries, however, tech issues are for existing customers only).
Report for 2018
HRANK | # in TOP | Uptime, % | Response, ms | Sites, +(-) | Shared IPs, +(-) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
3.8 | 154 | 99.884 | 1245 | +2249 | -2 |
- The provider was unstable and this, we are afraid, affected its HRank rating to a certain extent – 3.5(the154thposition in 2018).
- Actually, MochaHost.com was expected to be ok in most aspects, and in our observation, they were when they started monitoring (June 2018). They delivered good uptime without any serious glitches. However, they were not really stable, and its uptime, though never really lower than 99% left much to be desired.
- Pretty much the same can be said about MochaHost’s response time. It was in the range of 1,200ms – 1,300ms, which is hardly the fastest result.
- However, they increased their number of domains, despite such moderate performance results. Well, the provider used to have a higher rank, and it still might improve.
